Football Photography Doesn't Have To Be Expensive......
You're watching football on the tv and as a player takes a throw-in or corner, you see a photographer in a hi-vis jacket with a camera lens that is as big as the Hubble Space Telescope. It is a stereotypical image which seems to portray football photography as something that is very expensive and difficult to get into without the need to ram-raid your nearest branch of Natwest. For professional football, this may well be the case, where a top-level camera like the Sony A9 III taking 120 pictures a second will set you back around £5k, and a 400mm lens, that Hubble Telescope you saw on tv, will cost a very tidy £11k+ of your hard earned money. If you're planning to spend your time each Saturday in a 30,000+ seater stadium, gear like this would be your bread and butter, but what about a Saturday afternoon down your local non-league club?.........
Football clubs at non-league and grassroots level simply want some exposure from someone interested in holding a camera, to take some pictures. You'll be unsurprised to hear that, NO, you don't need to spend the cost of a new car on your camera gear to get started though. So what gear do you need? How expensive is that gear to get started in football photography? What gear can you get for the budget you have set yourself? Do you just want something you turn on and take a picture, or perhaps something which gives you flexibility with maybe some different lenses or maybe even video? Where is the best place to buy the gear?
I'm in the process of putting together a series of YouTube episodes which will dive into football photography on a budget. Join me soon as I show you what options you have, options that won't involve spending a fortune. Hopefully it will be be enough for you to consider joining me, and others, as we promote non-league football across the UK. Make football photography your new hobby!!
